August 26, 2013 - LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL - WBRC Architects · Engineers announces the selection of Douglas W. Whitney, AIA, CSI, NCARB, LEED AP, as its new President.

Doug Whitney has led the company’s Florida branch in Lakewood Ranch since 2002. Under his watch, WBRC’s Suncoast branch has grown significantly, earning the trust of regional and national clients including Universal Health Services (UHS), Lakewood Ranch Commercial Realty, Verizon Wireless, and Bealls in 17 states. The company also has offices in Portland and Bangor, Maine.

“Doug’s leadership abilities are evidenced by the success he’s achieved in the Sarasota/Bradenton region and beyond,” says WBRC’s CFO Alan C. Bromley, PE, LEED AP. “As the economy emerges from its recent downturn, Doug will help lead WBRC to new levels of growth and client service.”

Rob Frank, head of WBRC’s Commercial/Civic Studios, says: “Doug Whitney is a master at both solving problems and creating opportunities, for both clients and our project partners. We’re excited about moving into our 112th year under his leadership.”

“WBRC has been improving people’s lives for generations through high-quality design solutions,” Doug Whitney says. “It is a privilege to build on that legacy by expanding our reach while continuing to provide our clients with lean, responsible design.”

Whitney, a graduate of Syracuse University, will manage the Maine-based company primarily from WBRC’s offices in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. “A decade ago, this would have been impractical,” he says. “With today’s video conferencing and shared servers, we have been working as a team from three offices on a daily basis. Our use of technology to collaborate is a key factor in our ability to efficiently manage projects nationally and internationally.” WBRC serves clients in 23 states and three provinces in Atlantic Canada.

Whitney’s professional associations include: Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), FL Suncoast Chapter; Gulf Coast Builders Exchange (GCBX); U.S. Green Building Council, FL Gulf Coast Chapter;National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB); former Chairman of the Maine State Board of Registration of Architects; and a member of the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Suncoast Chapter of the Construction Specification Institute (CSI), the Syracuse University Alumni Club SunCoast Chapter, and the Church of the Trinity Metropolitan Community Church of Sarasota.
He and his Florida team are also part of many community service organizations, from school volunteer programs in association with the Lakewood Ranch Rotary to the Miracle League of Sarasota and Manatee Counties to Habitat for Humanity.
